There is something very refreshing about revisiting old fairytales that you might have heard or read as a child. I'm not talking about Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty, we Indians grew up with so many other tales than just that. As a Bengali kid, I've heard about the শাকচুন্নি , পেত্নী , ডাইনি (lets just say permutations and combinations of "the cackling witch), I'm pretty sure kids of other regional ethnicities would've heard stories in their languages.

Sudha Murthy spins a beautiful tale through her writing of four kids coming during the summer vacations to visit their Ajja and Ajji (grandparents), and hearing stories from them and others they visit during their stay. These are not just make belief stories about magic and talking animals, they have morals, for children and adults alike. A must read!
